Day 27

Today is a BIG day for BIG THINGS! First stop is Gumlu which home to the Big Watermelon Slice and The Big Pumpkin which were created to celebrate the towns horticultural focus.

After a brief visit in Gumlu we went onto Mount Inkerman Scenic Lookout and took on the 2 km steep walking trail up 214m to reach the summit which provided a great view of the region.

25km up the road we reach Ayr which is a sugar cane town. There is a fair amount to do in Ayre and found the BIG Turtle in Plantation park and Gubulla Munda, 60-metre Giant Carpet Snake. It is the totem of the local Jura people. We then did the Heritage Town Walk which was a nice 90 minute walk talking in the architecture of the early 1900's of the Masonic Temple, National Bank, Delta Cinemas, Clock Tower, Cemetery and its Mausoleums & the Courthouse.

The fun didn't stop there, we continued our walk up Townsville is a place to discover, appreciate and immerse in nature. Long known as a military base, the Townsville region today remains home to one of the country’s largest army barracks, as the official home of Australia’s 3rd and 11th Brigade. We also checked out the BIG Golden Gumboot & Big Spider and checked out Castle Hill, which gives amazing views over the town and out towards Magnetic island

We ended up just outside of Townsville at BlueWater

We added 233km to the trip today. Total Km Walked - 3282/2500
