Day 18

We started the day at Eumundi and a quick stop off at Hideaway Bakery before we headed off. First stop is the Statue of Matilda the Giant Kanagaroo at Kybong, Matilda was the mascot for the 1982 Brisbane Commonwealth Games. We then headed up to Gympie, there is so much to do in this region including a trip on the Mary Valley Rattler. Gympie is also the gateway to Fraser Island.

Our next stop is Maryborough and we kept an eye out for the Ned Kelly statue (our second Big Ned Kelly Statue of the trip) which was just as we headed into town. Did you know a former Maryborough man helped forensic experts identify Ned Kelly’s remains all those years ago? Maryborough is also home to the historic Wharf St Precinct, which is Australia’s finest military museum outside of Canberra

A detour to the right would take us to Hervey Bay however we continued north on the Bruce Highway to the town of Childers and checked out the Snakes Downunder Reptile Park before finishing the day just up the road at for dinner at the Apple Tree Creek Hotel.

We added 204km to the trip today. Total Km Walked - 2189/2500
